A recurring look at what's happening at Shanghai's art galleries:

1. Envision

Envision

For the past decade, AroundSpace has celebrated emerging and established contemporary artists in China. For this group exhibition, they’ve invited 12 artists ranging from the experienced to the recently graduated to present their vision of traditional Chinese culture’s place in contemporary art. Participants include Ji Dachun, Dong Wensheng, Huang Yuanqing, Ding Beili, Dou Rongjun (pictured above), Tang Shu, Shao Zejiong, He Daqiao, Fu Xiaotong, Ju Ting, Zhuang Ying and Qiu Jia. Opens on October 29 at 4pm.
Oct 29-Dec 18. AroundSpace Gallery.

2. Andy Warhol - Shadows

Oct 29-Jan 15: Andy Warhol - Shadows

The pop art originator has been feted numerous times in Shanghai these past few years, but Yuz Museum is offering a look at a different side of his work. Shadows collects Warhol’s works from 1978-79 when the artist was fascinated with creating silk-screened panels of shadows.
Oct 29-Jan 15. Yuz Museum

3. Ye Hongxing: The Accumulation of Silence

Ye Hongxing: The Accumulation of Silence

In The Accumulation of Silence, Ye Hongxiang presents her latest series of white marble sculptures that are modeled after an iconic bottle of perfume or alcohol. She will also present a new series of sticker paintings that showcase her use of symmetry and parrallelism while incorporating currency presented as mantras and prayers for subtly subversive works.
Oct 30-Dec 31. Art + Shanghai.

4. Shanghai Art Fair

Shanghai Art Fair

One of the city’s oldest art fairs celebrates its 20th anniversary. With a legacy of serving as a gateway for legends like Picasso and Monet to make their Chinese mainland debut, the Shanghai Art Fair once again mixes classics with works from the country’s finest emerging artists.
Nov 3-6, RMB50. Shanghai World Expo Exhibition & Convention Centre.

5. Zhang Ruyi: Building Opposite Building

Zhang Ruyi: Building Opposite Building

Winner of numerous art prizes like the Creative M50 Young Artist Award, 2012, Zhang Ruyi has become a Don Gallery favorite since participating in a 2014 group show (see above). In her second solo exhibition, she uses buildings as the recurring motif for her works that span from site-specific installations to paintings. In Building Opposite Building, she explores the relationship between the individual, daily realities and physical spaces.
Nov 3-Dec 25. Don Gallery.

6. Fan Ho: On the Stage of Life

Fan Ho: On the Stage of Life

m97 Project Space hosts this exhibition from the celebrated Hong Kong photographer who passed away in June. Featuring works from the 1950s and 60s, On the Stage of Life captures everyday life of a now bygone era, taken when the Shanghai-born photographer was still in his teens.
Until Nov 12. m97 Project Space.
